Atrial natriuretic peptide and leptin interactions in healthy men

Introduction Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), a hormone secreted from the heart, controls cardiovascular and renal functions including arterial blood pressure natriuresis. ANP also exerts metabolic effects in adipose tissue, liver skeletal muscle, interacts with secretion of adipokines. We tested hypothesis that lowers concentrations anorexigenic adipokine leptin healthy humans vivo . Methods Human or matching placebo was infused intravenously (iv) into men controlled clinical trial. Results Within 135 minutes iv infusion, we observed an acute decrease plasma levels compared to controls. Free fatty acids markedly increased infusion , indicating activated lipolysis. In human SGBS adipocytes, suppressed release. Discussion The study shows cardiac reduces humans, providing further support for as cardiomyokine heart - tissue axis.
